Lower Canyon

Arizona Raft Adventures, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Arizona, river rafting trips

Do you want to hike the geology of the Grand Canyon in 7.5 miles? The entire stretch of the Grand Canyon that we run is 225 miles long. There is an option to do only the lower Canyon stretch which is 137 river miles. The Lower Canyon can be rafted in 9-10 days on either a Hybrid or an All-Paddle trip. The trip begins with a 7.5 mile hike descending down the Bright Angel Trail past ages of rock layers all of the way from the South Rim to the Colorado River. The trip ends in Flagstaff.

Plan to attend our 7:00 p.m. orientation meeting at the South Rim the evening before your hike down the Bright Angel Trail. Bright and early on the morning of your trip, we will send you carrying your backpack of personal gear on your way down the Bright Angel Trail. Your guides will be awaiting your arrival at the Pipe Creek beach, where you will begin your trip. The hike down the Bright Angel Trail is extremely arduous and may be the hardest part of your trip. We don't recommend the hike down the Bright Angel Trail for people with pain or previous injury to any lower extremity of the body including knees, hips, ankles, toes, feet, and lower back. These areas all become extremely exacerbated on the hike. Other factors that might make the hike difficult include being out of shape or overweight. If you are considering hiking the Bright Angel Trail, we recommend that you read our detailed page all about the Bright Angel Trail.

When you reach *Diamond Creek mid-morning of the last day, we will transport you by bus to Flagstaff. The return time is usually sometime between 3-7 p.m. but we do not guarantee the exact arrival time. Please see our detailed trip logistics on the Lower Canyon trip if you are interested in reading complete details about the Lower Canyon trip.

*On certain occasions your trip may end on Lake Mead.
